Whether used as a metaphor for the human condition or simply as a backdrop for compelling stories, chess has proven to be a rich source of inspiration for filmmakers and artists throughout history. With its complex strategy, intense competition, and universal appeal, it is likely that the game of chess will continue to inspire great art for generations to come.

"Chess is not a game" is an ongoing series of short films centered around the game of chess, animated and feature. Many, mostly Berlin based, artists participated in these films, such as Gino Rubert, Paolo Bottarelli, Hannes Gruber, Hannu Prinz, Gerrit Engel, Leon Kahane, Tak Yen To,  Phillipp Grötzinger, Jan-Philip Sexauer, Frank Künster, Barbara Philip, David Skiba, Thomas Gaska, and many others.
